Privacy Policy

Deconstruct Sun is made by Andrew Harrell. This policy explains what the app and this website do and do not do with your information. The short version: your data stays on your device.

The short version

Deconstruct Sun keeps your data on your device. Your sites, coordinates, skylines and photos are stored locally and are never uploaded to us. We run no ads, no analytics SDKs and no third-party tracking, and we sell nothing to anyone.

What the app stores (on your device only)

• Sites and projects: the name, latitude/longitude and obstruction skyline you create for each spot, and the projects you group them into.
• Photos: images you capture or import to trace over. They are copied into the app’s private storage and removed when you delete the photo or the site.
• Settings and purchase status: your preferences (including whether to show precise coordinates) and whether Pro is unlocked.

All of the above lives in the app’s local storage on your device. It is not transmitted to us and we cannot see it. Hardiness zones are looked up from data stored inside the app, so your coordinates are not sent anywhere to find them.

Device permissions

• Location: used only when you request it, to fill in a site’s coordinates. The coordinates are saved as part of that site on your device; your location is not tracked or transmitted.
• Camera and Photo Library: used only to create the photo backdrops you trace the skyline over. Images stay on your device.
• Motion sensors: used only to level the camera against the horizon during capture. No motion data is stored or sent.

Purchases

Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. To unlock Pro and restore it across your devices, our payments provider RevenueCat processes a randomly generated purchase identifier and your entitlement status. It does not receive your name, your sites or your photos. See Apple’s and RevenueCat’s privacy policies for how they handle transaction data.

This website

deconstructsun.com sets no cookies and runs no advertising or tracking scripts. The sun calculator and hardiness zone lookup run in your browser: if you choose “Use my location”, your coordinates stay in your browser and are never sent to us. ZIP codes you type are used only to load this site’s own public data files. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request information (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the site. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits in aggregate without cookies or personal profiles. The App Store badge image is served by Apple. Video thumbnails are loaded from YouTube’s image server; the video player itself (YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) loads only if you press play, and YouTube’s privacy policy applies from then on.

What we do not do

• No advertising and no ad networks.
• No analytics or usage-tracking SDKs in the app.
• No selling, renting or sharing of personal data.
• No accounts, and no cloud copy of your sites or photos.

Children

Deconstruct Sun is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and this page. Material changes will be reflected in an app update.
